WINE
2015 Boscoe 'La Fai' Syrah
Boscoe Wine Co.

The Boscoe “La Fai” Syrah is an homage to David’s wife Connie. Originally from Hong Kong, Connie’s Cantonese name is Wong Tsz Fai - Fai translates to “sunlight” in English; a very fitting name, because, as Galileo famously posited, “Wine is sunlight, held together by water.”

The La Fai is a co-ferment of Syrah and Viognier sourced from the sandy soils of the organic Kimsey Vineyard of Ballard Canyon. In the 2015 vintage, David harvested the Syrah (89%) and Viognier (11%) on September 3rd at 4:30am. The fruit underwent a completely natural fifty day fermentation with 33% stem inclusion. Extraction is gently helped along by two punch downs a day for the first five weeks, three punch downs a day for the 6th week and one punch down a day for the last several days. The fruit is pressed in a hand crank press by David to minimize the extraction of corse or bitter tannins. Of the six barrels used for elevage one is one year old, two are two years old, one is four years old, one is five years old and the last is ten years old. 150 cases produced.
