Brick House Vineyards, 2014 Brick House Pinot Noir 'Cuvée du Tonnelier'

92
"(30 percent new French oak) Vivid ruby-red. Complex aromas of ripe red and blue fruits, candied rose, cola and oak spices. Sweet and broad on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry, boysenberry and spicecake flavors that are given spine and sharpened by a jolt of zesty acidity. Round, even tannins shape the sweet, velvety finish, which hangs on with impressive tenacity."

2014 Brick House Pinot Noir 'Cuvée du Tonnelier'
Brick House Vineyards

With the heat of this vintage driving the picking schedule, the Pinot Noir harvest in 2014 started on September 14, 2014 and was concluded in just four days. Despite every effort to retain acidity and keep alcohol in check, the Pinot Noir came in at over 24 degrees brix with pH’s ranging from 3.35 to 3.70 depending on specific location within our vineyard. In a departure from the normal practices at the winery, the fruit was almost completely de-stemmed due to the relative early harvest dates. After a 4 day cold maceration in stainless steel fermenters, the juice was warmed and a native fermentation was encouraged. The Pinot Noir was acidulated mid-fermentation while temperatures were held below 28 degrees C. The wines all saw an extended post-fermentation maceration, in some cases spending nearly six weeks in tank.

This cuvée is a barrel selection from lots produced in the Pommard clone block of own-rooted vines. After twelve months in barrel (approximately 30% new),the wine was bottled by hand in August, 2015.
