Bonny Doon Vineyard, 2010 Bonny Le Cigare Blanc Reserve

"(56% roussanne and 44% grenache blanc): Light yellow-gold. A complex, deeply perfumed bouquet evokes candied citrus and pit fruits, toasted almond, honey and chamomile. Spicy and savory in character, offering intense, broad poached pear and orange flavors and a hint of marzipan. Tighter on the finish, which emphasizes succulent herbs and bitter pear skin. This intriguing wine would be a great match with buttery dishes that involved mushrooms or truffles; it would also work wonders with a range of funky cheeses, even blues."

Bonny Doon Vineyard, 2010 Bonny Le Cigare Blanc Reserve

"The baked apple and poached pear flavors have a very appealing spicy side, with plenty of elegance and details of toasted nuts, citrus zest and flowers. The finish is punctuated by a delicate, creamy texture and fresh acidity. Roussanne and Grenache Blanc. Drink now through 2018."

The ’10 Cigare Blanc Réserve is absolutely amazing... this wine is more or less the same blend as the Cigare Blanc, apart from the fact that they've allowed it to undergo malolactic fermentation, gave it a light SO2 addition, and racked it to glass demijohn (bonbonne), where it reposed for a year-plus, getting anaerobically stirred regularly. The wine comes entirely from the Beeswax Vineyard, located at the mouth of the Arroyo Seco. It is farmed biodynamically and produced according to biodynamic specifications.

A word about Le Cigare Blanc Reserve from winemaker, Randall Grahm:
I’ve had the pleasure of tasting this wine over the last year, and what is most remarkable about it is that every time I taste it, it gets younger and younger! The wine was not filtered, and therefore is partly cloudy, though lately, it is curiously, getting brighter and brighter. The wine has a rich, unctuous texture, despite its modest (12ish%) alcohol, as well as possesses the most satisfying savoriness. In the nose, there is a wonderful suggestion of hazelnuts (hmm, white Burgundy, anyone?), as well as a beautiful fragrance of wintergreen and a wine-like pear. A great gastronomy wine, one that will perfectly suit rich, cream-based dishes.
