Snowden Vineyards
St. Helena, CA, United States

For over fifty years the Snowden family has been farming grapes on their eastern-sloped, Napa Valley ranch, which touches both the Rutherford and St. Helena appellations. The property was purchased in the 1950s. In 1993, the Snowdens produced the first vintage under their own label. In 2005, Diana Snowden, along with consulting winemaker Dave Ramey, assumed winemaking duties. Today, Snowden Vineyards produces two Bordeaux blends from their estate vineyards and a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc from premier sites throughout the Valley. The wines are a unique marriage of the characteristics of their renowned growing regions.

After Diana's first harvest at Robert Mondavi Winery, winemaking became her passion. She graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelors of Science in Viticulture and Enology in 2001. Since then she has gained experience working at such estates as Araujo in Calistoga, La Fleur de Bouard in Bordeaux, and Domaine Leflaive in Puligny Montrachet. Today, Diana is the following her true calling as winemaker for Snowden Vineyards, as well as being enologist and cellar master for the famed Domaine Dujac in Burgundy.

The Snowden Ranch is a quarter of a mile wide and a mile long, extending from the tiny Spring Valley at the west end over the hill into Conn Valley at the east end. From different places on the property you can see St. Helena, Rutherford, Oakville, Yountville, Napa, and, on a clear day, the Bay Area. Elevations on the property range from approximately 450 feet to over 850 feet.

The vineyards comprise approximately 24 acres at four different locations on the property. Most are planted at what the family refers to as "the top of the property" - a relatively flat area on the ridge between Spring and Conn Valleys.

The wines are all made with much attention to preserving integrity of through fruit, without adding any nutrients or yeasts, and without filtration.

"The Return of California Cabernet"
Seysses, who makes wine for Snowden Vineyards, her family's property outside Rutherford, has found a way to embrace modernity and still maintain Cabernet's soul. Hers is a particularly curious perspective: When not crafting Cabernet, she works with her husband's family at their Burgundy property, Domaine Dujac. Yet she's a California girl to the core, raised in Napa, trained at UC Davis, ushered into the wine industry at Robert Mondavi Winery... Even if her Cabernets are ripe - th
