VINEYARD Vines planted in 2001. Tended in clay soil at 380 m (1,246 ft) elevation. All the grapes are 100% estate grown. The Malpica winery and vineyards were started in 2001; it is today's largest vineyard in Europe with 2,500 acres of vineyard land with an additional 1,500 acres to be planted in the coming years.
VINIFICATION Vinified at controlled temperatures of no more than 23C / 73F, with maceration during first stage of fermentation to extract color, aromas, and flavors. After 12 days the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and then it spends 3 months in French oak barrels before bottling.
