The Rochioli Chardonnay is a blend of fruit predominately from the Mid-40 block, with the remaining made up of the River block and the Allen vineyard, which has been farmed by the Rochioli family for years. The soil is Yolo sandy loam with an overwash which is derived from the sedimentary formation in alluvial fans. Upon harvest, the grapes are gently pressed, whole cluster, and undergo native yeast fermentation. Full malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel with sur lies bâtonnage. The wine is aged for 20 months in roughly a quarter new François Frères French oak barrels. It is then fined and settled in stainless steel vats.
Aromatically the wine jumps out of the glass with notes of white flowers, Asian pears, and green apple. On the palate, the wine is beautifully balanced, with a wonderful richness to it from the ripe fruit characteristics and an underlying minerality.
“This is our second single vineyard Chardonnay from this historic vineyard. We’ve enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the Rochioli family for years and are excited to produce this elegant and fruit-driven wine from our neighbor’s vineyard on Westside Road.” – David Ramey
